The Stockholm based band Opeth is currently embarking on an international tour in order to promote their new album “Heritage” to the world wide community. The Swedish band provides a unique blend of metal rock with emotional instrumental interludes that make for a sound that is familiar yet unique. The first track on the new “Heritage” album is a keyboard heavy instrumental piece that seems to provide a calming introduction which is to be followed by the electric guitar infused songs later in the album. Front man Lars Mikael kerfeldt’s voice provides a melodically haunting quality with just a touch of a rough edge. When you think you know what is coming next on the “Heritage” album the band seems to throw a song in to keep you guessing about is coming next. This lines up with the band’s explanation of their attempt to create whole albums that provide an over-arching experience rather than a cut and pasted list of individual songs. The band states that they never plan to have a “hit single”, but rather will continue to make music with an entire album in mind.
